My professional practice

"Growth occurs when individuals confront problems, struggle to master them, and through that struggle develop new aspects of their skills, capacities, views about life." Carl Rogers

This growth can be challenging if you are feeling stuck, misunderstood, unmotivated, sad, frustrated, overwhelmed, anxious or like you are "not enough." Past experiences can feel weighty without the space to heal from them. And breaking repeated patterns can feel impossible without the awareness of how they came about and the confidence that you can change them.

I am a Gestalt trained therapist working with adults and adolescents to help them understand themselves more clearly, discover connections and remove barriers so they feel empowered to make changes they desire. Therapy is a weekly commitment to working together, where increasing awareness of how you are in the world is not always easy, but ultimately can be life-changing.

I create a non-judgemental space where you will feel seen and heard fully, perhaps for the first time. Through our therapeutic relationship, processing past experiences feels safe, questioning current beliefs brings peace and an increased confidence in your ability to navigate future challenges empowers you to live your life fully.

As well as supporting clients privately and in a secondary school, I am also a Clinical Supervisor, supporting therapists and other professionals. Here I create a warm, collaborative space where supervisees feel supported, safe to explore, gently challenged and inspired to develop their client/professional work.

Supervision

As a Gestalt trained Clinical Supervisor, I offer a warm, collaborative space for supervisees to explore and enhance their client work. Through sessions, I reflect with supervisees on their current case load and, where appropriate, identify how personal processes may be impacting their work.

I am passionate about creating a supervisory relationship where supervisees can celebrate moments of success, discuss ethical dilemmas, identity/be guided in areas for growth, be gently challenged, and ultimately feel inspired to develop professionally so that they provide the best possible care for their clients.

Working as a therapist is an exceptionally rewarding, but often  challenging and isolating experience, so I foster a creative environment where supervisees feel listened to, supported, empowered so that growth feels possible.

I have experience working with therapists in training, professionals in organisations, those in private practice and experienced therapists looking to explore the direction of their practice. I also work as a therapist in a secondary school and support professionals (teachers and therapists) in a school setting so understand the safeguarding implications and the differences working with young adults. I am Gestalt trained but work with other modalities and can provide sessions in person or online.

My aim for supervision is to create a space for supervisees to explore client work, personal processes, growing edges and the wider picture. Collaborative sessions ensure that supervisees return to clients feeling empowered and inspired to provide the best possible service.

Sessions are £65 per hour, £97.50 for 1.5hours.

Testimonials

Mel was understanding, welcoming and warm. I could be myself without being judged. Mel challenged me to understand my emotions and consider alternatives. I would recommend her to anyone who is feeling unsure, especially men. Therapy was hugely beneficial to me and had a profoundly positive impact on my life.
I have valued the questions that you have posed during our supervision that have allowed me to reflect on myself and my work with clients which I hadn't considered before. I appreciate your gentle challenge that holds no judgement and your ever present attentiveness and flexibility to whaetver it is I need in each and every supervision session. Thank you so much!
Initially I wasn't sure about therapy but I can't tell you what an impact it has had on my life. I was able to talk about some really painful events and feel seen and understood. My outlook has changed immensely and I didn't think that was possible so thank you so much!

Testimonials

In a nutshell therapy has been one of the best experiences of my life. I am me and I now like me and that is thanks to you Mel. I want to thank you for your professionalism, care, empathy and commitment throughout this process. And for being human mostly. This has been an important and meaning chapter in my life and I leave with a deep sense of gratitude for the work we have done together.
I was able to talk about anything and everything. I was able to say exactly how I felt without judgement. I am now more confident in understanding how I feel and am able to cope a lot better and see different options. Thank you!
Before I started, I didn't understand myself or the things I did. The sessions made me realise who I am and why I do the things I do- and in turn make changes.
I feel so much more confident compared to when I started. It's been amazing.
